 The number of Italian companies operating in Turkey exceeded 700.
Italian Ambassador to Ankara, Carlo Marsili stated that the number of the Italian companies operating in Turkey exceeded 700 and that direct investment total reached 5 billion dollars. Marsili visited Adana for regional assessment and to meet his contacts. In a statement to AA agency he said that the economic relations are increasing with each passing year. He also called attention to the fact that the surpassed 19 billion dollars and he added: "The trade volume increased by 4 percent in the last four years."
Marsili stated that Italy is the third country after Russia and Germany that established busy foreign trade relations. He said: "We should exclude Italy from that list as Russia sells only energy to Turkey and does not import much from this country. From commercial point of view, Italy comes second in that list. The Italian companies operating in Turkey exceeded 700 and the direct investments of these companies amounted to 5 billion dollars." Marsili said that Italian companies in Turkey mostly operated in the sectors of industry, cement, banking and SME sectors. He stated: "Italy is in fifth place in investments to Turkey through countries. Trade relations between Italy and Turkey developed positively in all sectors. We want to expand these areas and we are continuing our studies. "We want to Spread Italian Investments to Entire Turkey" Marsili said they have been working on spreading Italian investments concentrated in western region to other parts of Turkey noting that they were making assessments on cities like Adana, Gaziantep, Konya and Kayseri. He noted that through investments in these cities, the trade volume between two countries could be increased. He said: "We want to expand Italian investment concentrated in western region to the southern coastal parts of Turkey.
