Chinese equipment maker Huawei, one of world's leading new generation telecommunications network solutions providers, aims to establish the company's first Research and Development Center in Turkey. With the investment that will become the 15th Huawei Research and Development Centers in the world, the company aims at transferring its skills and expertise in next generation telecom technologies to its employees in Turkey, to the local business associates and to the sector.
The Memorandum of Understanding regarding the new Research & Development Center is signed in the presence of President Abdullah Gül on 28 June 2009 in Shenzhen, China, by Huawei Telecommunications Co. Pvt. Ltd. General Manager Liang Zhihui and Alparslan Korkmaz, president of Prime Ministry Investment Support and Promotion Agency. Huawei, serving 36 of the world's top 50 operators and with nearly one billion users, is a true leader in telecommunication world. The company defines its mission as to enrich people's lives through forming a communication bridge to digital life. In the ceremony it was stated that Huawei, whose primary aim is to make long lasting contributions to the countries in which they pay special attention to their customers, considers Turkey as one of the "key" areas and for this reason decided to open a Research and Development Center in which 150 Turkish engineers will be assigned. With opening of Research and Development Center, it is aimed that Huawei's technological richness will be transferred to Turkey, job opportunities will be created for sector professionals and newly graduates and new products will be developed both for domestic and foreign market. Alparslan Korkmaz, who made a speech during the signature ceremony stated: "That investment project is a value adding opportunity for Promotion Agency; it is parallel to our major mission of encouraging investments and is of great importance. As Promotion Agency, one of our chief approaches is promoting Turkey's economy as one that is supported by innovativeness and based on knowledge.
